Just want Thor?
My name is Thor, and the sound of thunder is the sound of my laughter. Usually, the sky rumbles when I swing my mighty hammer, Mjolnir, but this morning, the world was quiet. Too quiet. I woke up in my great hall in Asgard and reached for my hammer, but my hand grabbed only empty air. My heart pounded like a war drum. Mjolnir was gone. A cold feeling washed over me because without my hammer, our home, Asgard, was not safe. This story is about how I lost—and found—my greatest treasure. It is the myth of The Theft of Mjolnir.
A storm of anger brewed inside me, and I bet lightning flashed in my eyes. I knew I needed help, so I rushed to find my clever brother, Loki. 'Loki, my hammer is gone.' I roared. Loki, who always knew secrets, used his cunning to find out the truth. A giant king named Thrym had stolen the hammer while I slept. Thrym hid it deep underground in his kingdom of Jotunheim. The giant king made a bold demand: he would only return Mjolnir if he could marry the beautiful goddess, Freya. When we told Freya, she was so angry her special necklace shattered into a thousand pieces. 'Never.' she shouted. 'I will never marry a giant.' All the gods were worried. Without Mjolnir, Asgard was in danger. Then, the wise god Heimdall had a strange and funny idea. 'Thor,' he said, 'you must dress up as Freya and go to the wedding yourself.' I roared with fury. 'Me? Dress like a bride? Never.' But Loki convinced me it was the only way. 'It's a trick, brother,' he whispered. 'A clever trick to get your hammer back.' With a heavy sigh, I agreed to the silly plan to save my home.

Dressed in a wedding gown with a veil hiding my red beard, I traveled to Jotunheim with Loki, who was disguised as my bridesmaid. At the wedding feast, Thrym the giant king was thrilled to see his bride. But he grew suspicious when I ate an entire ox and drank three barrels of mead. 'My bride has a big appetite.' he boomed. Quick-thinking Loki whispered, 'She was so excited to marry you, she hasn't eaten for eight days.' Thrym laughed and called for the hammer to seal the wedding vows. He ordered his servants to place Mjolnir in my lap. The moment my fingers touched the handle of my beloved hammer, I felt my power surge back into me like a lightning bolt. I ripped off the veil, and with a mighty battle cry, I sent thunder crashing through the giant's hall. I quickly defeated the giants and reclaimed my hammer, ready to return home a hero.
Long ago, Viking families would tell this story around crackling fires on cold nights. It reminded them that sometimes, you need to be clever as well as strong to solve a problem. It showed that even the mightiest heroes, like me, need help from their friends and family. Today, the story of Thor and his hammer still thunders in our imaginations. You might see me in movies, read about me in comic books, and even play as me in games. This ancient myth from the North still teaches us about courage and reminds us that a little bit of humor can help save the day.
