Just want Canadian Space Agency?
Hello! We are the Canadian Space Agency, or CSA for short. Our main job is to explore the vastness of space and use science to help people all across Canada. Before we were formed, different groups in Canada worked on space projects separately. We were created in 1989 to bring all of Canada's space activities together into one team. By working together, we can focus on big goals and make important discoveries for our country and the world.
One of the things we are most famous for is building robotic arms for space. Imagine a giant, strong arm that can work on the outside of a spaceship, grabbing and moving large objects. Our first one was called the Canadarm, and it worked for many years on the Space Shuttle. It was a very important tool for astronauts. Today, a newer, more advanced arm called Canadarm2 is attached to the International Space Station, where it helps build and maintain the station. We are now building the next one, called Canadarm3, which will be used on missions to the Moon.
We also have a team of Canadian astronauts that we train and send to space. You might know the names of some of our astronauts, like Chris Hadfield and Julie Payette. They travel to the International Space Station, which is a home and science lab that orbits high above our planet. There, they live and work for months at a time. A big part of their job is to do science experiments. These experiments help us understand how living in space affects the human body and can lead to new discoveries that help us on Earth.

Our work also helps people right here at home. We use special satellites that we call our 'eyes in the sky.' These satellites orbit Earth and take pictures and measurements that keep Canadians safe and healthy. For example, they can help watch for forest fires, allowing firefighters to respond more quickly. They also monitor the amount of ice in the ocean, which helps make sure ships can travel safely. Our satellites can even help farmers by giving them information about their fields and crops.
We are always looking toward the future and reaching for new destinations. Right now, we are participating in the Artemis program, a big mission to return humans to the Moon. We are very excited that a Canadian astronaut will get to fly on a lunar mission as part of this program. Our goal is to keep exploring and learning new things about our universe. We believe that the knowledge we gain from space exploration can help make life better for everyone.
