The story

A Story of Indian Railways

Hello! We are Indian Railways. You can think of us as a big family of trains in the country of India. Our job is very important. We help people and things travel all across the land. We make sure everyone and everything gets to where it needs to go, safely and on time. We are the helpers who connect towns and cities with our long, shiny tracks.

Our story began a very, very long time ago, in the year 1853. That was the year of our very first trip! It was a special day. A train took people on a short journey. It went from a big city called Bombay to a smaller town called Thane. It was not a very long ride, but it was the beginning of something wonderful. From that one small trip, we started to grow and grow.

Today, we are a big and busy family of trains! Our train tracks are like long ribbons that stretch all across India. They connect faraway places, big cities, and small villages. Every single day, we carry many, many people. Some are going to work, and some are going to visit their families. We love helping people see the ones they love.

We don't just carry people. We also carry important things that everyone needs. We carry yummy food to the stores so you can have things to eat. We carry letters and packages, which is called mail. When we carry these things, we are helping everyone in the country. We are always moving, day and night, to help the people of India.
