The story

Our Story: The Malala Fund

Hello! We are the Malala Fund. Our name comes from a brave young woman named Malala Yousafzai. In 2013, she and her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, started our organization with a very important dream. They wanted to make sure that every single girl in the world has the chance to go to school, to learn, and to become whoever she wants to be. We believe that when you educate a girl, you can change the world for the better, and that is the work we do every day.

Our mission is to help create a world where all girls can get 12 full years of school for free. Just as important, we want to make sure that school is a safe place for them to learn and grow. For many girls, going to school isn't easy. Sometimes, a school is too far away to walk to safely. Other times, families may not have enough money to pay for books, uniforms, or other costs. In some places, there are even unfair rules or ideas that say it is not as important for girls to get an education as it is for boys. We work hard to change these things so that every girl has an equal chance to learn.

So, how do we help? We don't build schools ourselves. Instead, we use a different idea that we think works even better. We find and support amazing local leaders and teachers in countries like Pakistan, Nigeria, and Brazil. These people are already working in their own communities and understand the problems girls face there. They are the true experts! We give them money and support to help them make their great ideas bigger and stronger. By helping these local heroes, we can help their work reach many more girls who need it.

Today, we are still working hard to achieve our goal. One way we do this is by talking to world leaders. We meet with presidents and prime ministers to remind them of their promise to support education for all children. We also share stories about girls from all over the world. When people hear about a girl's hopes and dreams, it helps them understand just how much school matters. Our work is all about building a future where every girl can choose her own path, follow her dreams, and become a leader in her own community.
