Just want Special Olympics?
Hello! We are Special Olympics. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to be an athlete. Being an athlete means you get to play, run, jump, and be part of a team. Our job is to help children and grown-ups with intellectual disabilities learn all kinds of fun sports. This means that sometimes their brains work in a different way, but they are strong and full of talent!
We started a long time ago, in 1968. A kind and thoughtful person named Eunice Kennedy Shriver saw that some people didn't have a team to join. She wanted to change that. She dreamed of creating a happy and welcoming place for them to play games and show everyone their amazing skills. So, she started us to make sure everyone who wanted to be an athlete could be one.
Today, we have athletes all around the world! They practice sports like running on a track, swimming in a pool, and playing basketball with their friends. When our athletes get together, they learn new things and make new friends. We are so proud of them. We love to cheer for everyone who tries their best. It is not about winning, but about having fun and celebrating what our bodies can do. We are one big, happy team.
