UNESCO

Hello! We are the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. That’s a very long name, so you can call us by our short name, UNESCO. We are a special group made up of many countries from all around the world. Our main job is to help build peace. We work together so that people everywhere can live with kindness and understanding.

One of our biggest jobs is to protect special places. We give these places a special name: World Heritage Sites. These can be amazing old buildings, like castles or temples. They can also be big, beautiful forests filled with tall trees and animals. Some are even ancient cities that people built a very long time ago. We believe these places are important for everyone on Earth. We help keep them safe so that you and your family can share and enjoy them.

We also work hard to help everyone learn. We believe that every single child should have a chance to go to school. Going to school is so important! We help countries make it possible for all people, big and small, to learn how to read and write. When you can read and write, you can share your ideas with others. Learning helps us understand each other. This is a big step toward living peacefully together.

Today, we are still working hard. We continue to protect our World Heritage Sites and help children go to school. By sharing amazing places and helping everyone learn, we are building a friendlier world. We help people become friends, and that is how we build peace.
