The story

A Story from Ancient Greece

Hello from our home! We are the people of ancient Greece. We lived a very, very long time ago in a warm, sunny country called Greece. Our home was a beautiful place where the sun shone almost every day. It was surrounded by a big, sparkling sea, and our country had many small islands you could visit by boat.

We built many amazing buildings that were strong and beautiful. Some of our most famous buildings had tall, round posts called columns. These columns helped hold up the roof and made the buildings look very grand and important. Because it was so warm where we lived, our clothes were simple and comfortable. We wore long, flowing shirts called tunics. A special name for our tunic was a chiton. These clothes were perfect for staying cool on hot days.

We loved to play games and sports outside in the sunshine. We especially enjoyed running fast and jumping far. We even started a very big festival just for sports. We called it the Olympic Games. It was a happy time with many running and jumping contests for everyone to watch and cheer.

Even though we lived a long, long time ago, people still remember us. The Olympic Games still happen today, and people all over the world love to watch them, just like we did. People also travel to Greece to see the beautiful buildings with columns that we built. Our stories and ideas from ancient Greece are still an important part of the world today.
