The story

We Are the Ancient Romans

Hello! We are the Ancient Romans. We lived a very, very long time ago in a special place. Our home started as a city called Rome. Rome is in a country that people today call Italy. We had our own kind of clothes that we liked to wear. We wore special wrapped clothes called togas. A toga was a big piece of cloth that we would carefully wrap around ourselves. It was an important part of how we dressed. We were very proud of our city and our clothes.

We were known for being great builders. We built strong, straight roads that went for many miles. These roads helped people travel easily from one city to another. They connected our whole world. We also needed to bring fresh water into our cities for everyone to drink and use. To do this, we built special bridges just for water. We called them aqueducts. An aqueduct was like a long bridge that held a stream of water high up in the air, carrying it all the way to our homes and fountains.

We also knew how to have fun together. For fun, we liked to gather and watch exciting chariot races. Horses pulled small carts very fast, and we would cheer for our favorite team! We lived a long time ago, but you can still see parts of our world today. Some of our amazing roads and strong buildings are still standing. People can visit them and remember us and all the things we built.
