The story

A Story from the Ashanti People

Hello! We are the Ashanti people. We want to tell you about our home and our culture. Our home is in a country called Ghana, which is in a part of the world called Africa. We live in a warm forest, with many tall trees all around us. It is a wonderful place. We have a respected king who helps lead us. His title is the Asantehene. He is a very important person in our community.

One of the most beautiful things we create is our special Kente cloth. We are known for making this colorful cloth. It is bright with amazing colors, like sunny yellow and leafy green. The cloth is covered in special patterns. These patterns are more than just pretty designs; they help tell important stories about our lives and our history. We love to wear our Kente cloth. We put it on for happy celebrations and big parties. It helps make these happy times feel even more special.

Stories and music are very important to us, too. We love to share tales and sing songs together. We have famous stories about a very clever spider. His name is Anansi. The stories about Anansi are fun and exciting to hear. We, the Ashanti people, are still here today. We live in Ghana and in other places around the world. We are proud to share our culture with our children and with everyone. We continue to weave our Kente cloth and tell our stories, keeping our traditions alive.
