Just want Wixárika (Huichol) People?
Hello! We are the Wixárika people. Our name, Wixárika, means "the people." We live in the tall, beautiful mountains of Mexico. This is our home. We have lived in this special place for a very, very long time. Our families and our community are here.
We love to make beautiful, colorful art. We tell stories with our art. We use bright yarn to make pictures. The yarn feels soft in our hands. We also use tiny, shiny beads to decorate things. We carefully place each little bead to make a pattern. Our art shows important parts of our world. We make pictures of the bright sun in the sky. We show the gentle deer that lives in the forest. We also show the corn that grows in our fields and helps us eat and be strong.
We take care of our world. The earth helps us live, so we help the earth. We plant seeds and grow our own food. We grow tall corn and yummy beans in our gardens. When it is time to celebrate, we have special gatherings. We play music and give thanks for the good things we have. We are still here today. We live in our mountain homes, making our art and continuing our traditions.
