The Sunny Hill with a Story
High on a rocky hill, under the warm, sunny sky, my marble stones glow like honey. I can see the sparkling blue sea and a busy city all around me. I feel the gentle breeze tickle my stones. So many friends come to say hello to me every day. I am the ancient city of Athens, and I have a happy story to tell you.
A long, long time ago, around the year 447 BCE, my people built beautiful temples on my highest hill. They called this special hill the Acropolis. The most famous temple is the Parthenon, with columns that stand tall and proud like strong legs. They built it for a very special goddess named Athena. The people here had a wonderful new idea. They thought that everyone should help make the rules for the city. It was like everyone getting a turn to be the leader. They also loved to ask big questions and tell amazing stories in big, open-air theaters where everyone could sit together under the sky.
Today, my beautiful old buildings are called ruins. That means some of my stones have fallen down, but I am not forgotten. I still stand tall and proud for everyone to see. People from all over the world come to visit me. They walk where the great thinkers walked and remember the big ideas that were born right here. I love when children come to see me. I am a reminder that asking questions is a great adventure, and I will always be here, sharing my sunshine and my stories with you.
