Just want Colombia?
Imagine a place hugged by two different oceans, the warm Caribbean Sea on one side and the great Pacific Ocean on the other. A spine of tall, green mountains, called the Andes, runs right through my middle, touching the clouds. I also have a giant, steamy rainforest that is like a big lung for the world, filled with chirping birds and buzzing insects. Deep in my earth, you can find sparkling green jewels called emeralds and tiny beans that grow up to become delicious coffee. I am a land of many colors and wonderful treasures. Hello. I am Colombia.
Long before any sailing ships crossed the ocean to find me, my lands were home to amazing people. For thousands of years, families lived and thrived here. Some of the first footprints belonged to groups like the Muisca and the Tayrona peoples. Around the year 800, they were building incredible communities and amazing cities hidden in my mountains. They were experts at making beautiful things from gold. They crafted masks, jewelry, and tiny, detailed figures that shone like the sun. They understood my rivers, my mountains, and my forests, and they told stories about the magic in the world around them. They were the first to know my secrets and to call me home.
Then one day, a new chapter in my story began. Around the year 1499, large wooden ships with big white sails arrived from Spain, a country far across the sea. For a very long time after that, I was part of a Spanish kingdom. But the people who lived here had a strong spirit, and they started to dream of being free. They wanted to make their own choices and sing their own songs. That dream grew bigger and bigger until, on July 20th, 1810, my brave people declared that they would be independent. A hero named Simón Bolívar helped lead the fight. He was very courageous and believed that everyone deserved to be free. It was a long struggle, but it was a fight for the heart of who I was meant to be.

Today, my heart beats to a happy rhythm. You can hear it in the music, like the cheerful sounds of cumbia and vallenato that make everyone want to dance. You can taste it in the coffee that I share with the whole world and smell it in the colorful flowers that bloom all year round. I am a symphony of life. I am home to more kinds of birds and beautiful butterflies than almost anywhere else on Earth. From the highest mountain peak to the deepest part of the rainforest, my story is one of strength and beauty. I am a land of endless adventure, welcoming everyone to listen to my songs and share in my joy.
