Just want Delaware?
I am a cozy little place right by the big, big ocean. The water tickles my sandy toes on my warm beaches, and I have lots of green forests with tall trees that reach for the sky. I may be small, but I have a very big and happy heart. I was the first to do something very important a long time ago. Do you know who I am. I am Delaware, the First State.
Before I had my special name, wonderful people called the Lenape lived here. They played in my forests and fished in my rivers. It was their home for a long, long time. Then, something new and exciting happened. Many places decided to join together to make a brand new country. Everyone had to say if they wanted to join. On a very special day, December 7th, 1787, I raised my hand and was the very first one to say, 'Yes, I want to be part of the team.'. That's why everyone calls me The First State. I was so proud to be number one.
Today, I am a happy place where you can come and play. We can build tall sandcastles on my sunny beaches and watch the waves splash in the water. You can see big farms where yummy fruits and vegetables grow for everyone to eat. I am here to show you that even if you are little, you can be the very first to do something big and important. So please come and visit me someday.
