The story

A Story from Denmark

Hello, little friend. I am a land of green fields and happy islands. The big, blue sea hugs me all around. My little houses are painted in bright colors, like building blocks stacked in a row. They look so cheerful in the sunshine. I am Denmark.

A long, long time ago, brave explorers called Vikings lived here. They built big, strong boats called longships to sail across the sea. They loved adventure. Later, kings and queens built tall, pointy castles that reached for the sky. One king was named Harald Bluetooth. Around the year 965, he brought all my lands together to be one big family. He even made special big stones with carvings on them to tell everyone his important story.

I am also a home for wonderful stories. A kind man named Hans Christian Andersen was born here on April 2nd, 1805. He wrote magical fairy tales you might know, about a little mermaid who dreamed of the land and a clumsy duckling who became a beautiful swan. And guess what else was born here. Colorful little bricks you can stack and build with. They were invented in the year 1949 so children like you could create amazing things from their imagination.

Today, people say I am a very happy place to live. Families ride their bicycles everywhere, and everyone loves to eat yummy sweet treats. We have a special feeling here called 'hygge'. It means feeling warm, cozy, and happy with your friends. I am a place where old castles and new ideas live together. I hope you will come visit me and make your own happy memories one day.
