Just want Denmark?
Can you imagine a land made of hundreds of islands, big and small, all cuddled by the cool sea. My fields are bright green, dotted with tall windmills whose arms spin slowly in the breeze. My long, sandy beaches stretch for miles, and if you listen closely, you can hear the sea whisper secrets to the shore. In my cities, the buildings stand side-by-side like colorful blocks, painted in cheerful shades of yellow, blue, and red. My air is fresh and crisp, and my people love to ride bicycles everywhere. I am a special place, a kingdom of islands and happy hearts. I am the Kingdom of Denmark.
Long, long ago, my shores were home to brave adventurers you may have heard of. They were called the Vikings. Starting in the 8th century, these strong men and women were amazing sailors who built incredible wooden ships called longships. Their ships were long and sleek, with a dragon’s head carved on the front to look fierce as they sailed across the sea to explore new lands. The Vikings were also skilled farmers who worked hard on my green lands. For a long time, my islands were ruled by different leaders, but everything changed around the year 958. A great king named Gorm the Old brought all my lands together and united them as one. Because of him, I became one of the oldest kingdoms in the entire world, and I am very proud of that.
After the time of the Vikings, my story filled up with castles, kings, and queens. And it also filled with magical fairy tales. A wonderful storyteller named Hans Christian Andersen was born on one of my islands, called Funen, on April 2nd, 1805. He looked at my beautiful forests, my sparkling lakes, and my charming towns and saw magic everywhere. This inspiration helped him write some of the most famous stories ever told. Have you ever heard of a mermaid who wished to walk on land, or a little duckling who grew up to be a beautiful swan. He wrote those tales, 'The Little Mermaid' and 'The Ugly Duckling,' right here. He shared my magic with children all over the world, and his stories are still loved today.

My story of imagination didn't stop with fairy tales. In my town of Billund, a new kind of magic was created in 1949. A carpenter invented colorful, clicking blocks that could be built into anything you could dream of. You know them as LEGO bricks. Today, children everywhere use these bricks to build their own worlds. In my country, we also have a special word, 'hygge'. It means feeling cozy, safe, and happy with the people you love. My story, from Viking ships to fairy tales to colorful bricks, is all about creating things together and finding joy. I hope that whenever you build, dream, or share a cozy moment, you feel a little bit of my Danish happiness.
