The Island of Many Stories
The cool blue water tickles my sandy toes and splashes all around me. The wind whispers through my green, rolling hills where fluffy white sheep love to play and munch on sweet grass all day long. Sometimes, if you look very closely, you can see big stone castles playing hide-and-seek behind my tall, leafy trees. I am a big, friendly island full of wonder and cozy places. I am the island of Great Britain.
A long, long, long time ago, even before your grandparents were born, in the year 3000 BCE, people came and made a big circle of giant stones. They stood them up tall to say hello to the sun. It was a special place called Stonehenge. Much later, new friends called Romans came to visit me around the year 43. They built long, straight roads, like ribbons on a present, so everyone could travel and see each other. After the Romans, people built strong castles with tall towers to keep their families safe and sound. Then, starting in the 1700s, clever people who lived here made amazing things, like chugging steam trains that went 'choo-choo' with big puffs of smoke. They changed the world with their bright ideas.
Today, I am still here, and my cities sparkle with bright lights. In my biggest city, London, you can see big red buses driving all around. Hello, bus. I am made of different countries that are all friends—England, Scotland, and Wales. Each one has its own special songs and happy stories to tell. I am an island full of history and friendship, and my adventures are here for everyone to share. Come and say hello.
