The story

The Rainbow Palace of Smiles

My roofs are like a beautiful rainbow. They are colorful and curve up to the sky like a big smile. I have big, strong gates to welcome my friends and tall walls to keep everyone safe. Gentle mountains stand all around me, watching over me like friendly giants. I live in a big city called Seoul. Can you guess who I am. I am Gyeongbokgung Palace, a special home for kings and queens.

My story started a long, long, long time ago. A kind king named Taejo built me stone by stone, like you build with blocks. That was in the year 1395. I was so happy then. My big yards were filled with the sound of happy music and fun parades. Everyone was smiling and laughing. But one day, something sad happened. I got hurt and had to take a very long sleep for many, many years. Everything was quiet. But then, good people came to help me wake up. In the year 1867, they fixed my walls and painted my roofs again. They made me strong and beautiful, just like I was before. I was so happy to shine in the sun again.

Today, my big gates are open for everyone. I love to see happy children running in my big yards, just like a big playground. Families come to visit and take pretty pictures. Sometimes they wear beautiful, colorful clothes called hanbok. They look like princes and princesses. I love sharing my stories and my beauty with you. I am a place where old memories and new smiles meet. Come visit, and we can make happy memories together.
