Just want Loch Ness?
I am a long, deep ribbon of water, tucked between green, rolling hills in a beautiful place called the Scottish Highlands. My water is so dark that it looks like ink, and a chilly mist often dances on my surface like a soft, white blanket. I am very, very old, and I hold many secrets in my quiet, deep home. Sometimes, the wind makes ripples on my surface, and people wonder what lies beneath. They come from far away to look at me, hoping I will share one of my secrets with them. "What could be hiding in that dark water?" they whisper to each other. I just smile and keep my secrets safe. Hello there. I am Loch Ness, and my biggest secret is a mystery that has puzzled people for a very long time.
My story began a very, very long time ago, more than 10,000 years ago, even before there were castles or kings. Giant rivers of ice called glaciers slowly slid across the land. They were so big and powerful that they carved me out of the hard rock, leaving behind a deep, long space that filled with cold, fresh water. That is how I was born. For centuries, people have lived near my shores, fishing in my depths and building their homes. They built castles like the stony Urquhart Castle. Today, it stands in beautiful ruins, but it remembers a time of knights and kings, and it watches over my waters day and night. The very first story about a mysterious creature in my waters was told way, way back in the year 565. A kind man named Saint Columba was visiting the river that flows from me when his friends saw a "water beast." Saint Columba was very brave and told the beast to go away, and people have been telling stories about a strange creature in my waters ever since.

Saint Columba was very brave and told the beast to go away, and people have been telling stories about a strange creature in my waters ever since.
For hundreds of years, people who lived near me whispered tales about a strange creature. But I was mostly a quiet, peaceful lake. Then, on April 14th, 1933, everything changed. A story in a newspaper made me famous all around the world. A couple reported seeing a huge, wonderful creature splashing in my waters, and suddenly, everyone wanted to know more. They gave my mysterious friend a nickname: "Nessie." People came from everywhere with cameras and binoculars, hoping for just one peek. They would sit on my shores for hours, staring and waiting. "Did you see that ripple?" one would say. "Was that a fin?" another would ask. I had never had so much attention. In the year 1987, explorers even used a special boat with sound-wave machines. This project was called Operation Deepscan, and it tried to make a map of my bottom to find any large, moving things. But I am very good at keeping secrets, and I kept my biggest one safe.
Today, people still visit me from all over the world. They sail boats on my surface, their colorful sails bright against my dark water. They explore the old stones of Urquhart Castle and imagine what life was like long ago. And, of course, they still watch my waters, hoping to see a ripple or a splash that might be Nessie. Is there really a monster in my depths? Or is it just the wind playing tricks on the water, or a log floating by? I'll never tell. That is my secret to keep. But I will always be here to spark your imagination and remind you that the world is full of amazing mysteries waiting to be explored.
