The story

The City of Bricks

In a warm, sunny place, under the big blue sky, there is a city made of millions and millions of bricks. My bricks are the color of sunshine and sand. They are stacked neatly, like the best building blocks you have ever seen. I have been here for a very, very long time, dreaming under the sun. I am a secret city, a special city. I am Mohenjo-Daro.

I was built a long, long time ago, around the year 2500 BCE. Clever people from the Indus Valley Civilization made me. They were wonderful builders. They laid my streets out in straight lines, like drawing with a ruler. My houses were cozy and made of strong bricks. Some of my houses even had special rooms for washing, just like a bathroom. I also have a very big pool called the Great Bath where people could splash and play. The people who lived here were very smart. They made beautiful clay pots to hold their food and water. They also made pretty little beads to wear. I loved hearing their happy voices in my streets.

After a long time, everyone left, and the wind blew sand all over me. I was covered up and went to sleep for thousands of years, like a hidden treasure. Then, one day, helpers called archaeologists found me. This was in the 1920s. They gently brushed all the sand away and woke me up. Now, I stand tall again to show everyone how clever people were so long ago. I am a special treasure that helps us learn about our amazing past.
