Just want New Orleans?
Can you hear that happy music. A trumpet is playing a bouncy tune. Can you smell that yummy smell. It’s like sweet, sugary treats floating in the air. I sit right next to a giant, curly river that winds its way to the sea. I am the city of New Orleans.
A long time ago, a friendly explorer from France named Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville was looking for the perfect spot to build a new city. On May 7th, 1718, he found me. He saw how the big Mississippi River curved just so, and he knew I would be a special place. He helped build colorful houses with fancy balconies, and soon, families came to live here with me. I was so happy to have new friends.
Today, I am famous for my happy sounds. Music called jazz was born right here, and you can hear it everywhere you go. Toot toot. I have the best parties, especially one called Mardi Gras. That’s when everyone wears fun costumes and catches colorful beads during big parades that march down my streets. And oh, the food. People love to eat my fluffy, sweet donuts called beignets, which are covered in powdered sugar like a snowy mountain. Yummy.
I love being a place where people from all over the world come together to sing, dance, and share stories. My heart is full of joy and music. I hope one day you’ll come visit and dance along with me.
