Just want Oasis?

The story

The Desert's Green Secret

Imagine a big, warm, sandy place. The sun is a bright yellow ball in the sky, and sand stretches all around, like a giant sandbox. It is very quiet and very sunny. Then, you see a surprise. It is a splash of cool green. You hear the happy sound of bubbling water, and you feel the shade of tall, swaying trees. Hello. I am an Oasis, a secret garden in the desert.

I have a special gift. My gift is water. Deep, deep under the sand, water is hiding. It travels underground until it pops up to say hello. This makes a little pond for everyone to share. For a very, very long time, since ancient times around 3000 BCE, my water has helped things grow. Tall palm trees reach for the sky, and they grow sweet, yummy dates. The trees and flowers could not grow here without my water. I feel happy when I can share my gift.

I have always been a special stopping place for friends. Long, long ago, travelers and their thirsty camels would be so happy to find me. They would stop and drink my cool water. Today, I am still a cheerful home. Chirping birds, little desert foxes, and people all visit me. I show everyone that even in the driest places, a little water can make a beautiful, happy world. I am here to help everyone remember that even a little kindness can help big things grow.
