I Am Guilt

Hello, I am the feeling of Guilt. I show up when you know you’ve done something that wasn’t quite right. I’m that heavy, twisty feeling in your tummy after you’ve made a mistake. It is the feeling you get when you secretly ate the last cookie when you knew you shouldn't have.

When I visit, I can feel like a heavy blanket you can't shake off. I might make your tummy feel funny, or I might make you want to go and hide. I’m the little voice that keeps thinking, 'Oh no, I shouldn’t have done that,' over and over again. This is what happened to Leo when he broke his sister's crayon and didn't say anything at first.

But I'm not here to make you feel bad forever. I'm actually a helper. I give you a little push to do the right thing, like finding the courage to say, 'I'm sorry.' I am here to help you figure out how to fix your mistake. This helps you grow into a kinder and more honest person. When Leo apologized to his sister for breaking her crayon, he felt so much better.

Once you listen to me and make things right, I get smaller and then I go away. I’m just here to help you learn from your mistakes so you can be the best friend, sibling, and person you can be. I help you build a strong and kind heart. I am always here to remind you that fixing a mistake is how you grow.
