I Am Responsibility

Hello, I am Responsibility. You might know me already. I am the feeling of pride that bubbles up inside you when you finish your homework all by yourself, without anyone having to ask. I am the quiet trust a friend gives you when they share a secret, knowing you will keep it safe. I am the warm, gentle feeling you get from feeding your pet or taking them for a walk. I am the important choice to do what you know is right, even when it might be easier to do something else. I help you show the people in your life that they can always count on you.

Let me tell you about a time I visited a girl named Maya. She had made a promise to her younger brother, Sam, that on Saturday the 14th, she would help him build his brand new LEGO set. Sam was so excited. But then, on that same morning, Maya’s friend called with an invitation to a last-minute pool party. Maya felt a strong pull in two different directions. The party sounded like so much fun, with splashing and games. But I was there, gently reminding her of the promise she made to Sam and the excited look on his face. She thought about it for a moment and then made her choice. She decided to keep her word. Maya and Sam spent the afternoon building an amazing castle together, laughing and creating. When they finished, Sam gave her a big hug and said, 'You're the best sister ever.' That feeling of pride and trust she felt was me. She learned that day that I, Responsibility, can feel even better than a pool party because the good feeling lasts much longer.

Maya learned a lot that day about how I feel. Choosing to keep a promise showed her that making others feel happy and valued brings a special kind of joy. The more you practice listening to me, the stronger I become, helping you build trust with the people you care about. I continue to show up in moments big and small, helping people learn that they can count on themselves and each other.
