My Secret Power-Up: The Sleep Routine
A sleep routine is my set of calm activities that I do in the same order every night before bed. I think of it like a special code that tells my brain and body it’s time to power down. Just like I charge a tablet for the next day, my routine helps charge me up with great sleep so I am ready for whatever comes my way.
First, I pick a bedtime that’s the same every night because this helps set my body's internal clock. About an hour before that time, I start my 'power-down hour.' This means I turn off all screens and stop playing any wild games. Then, I might take a warm bath and feel the water relax my muscles, or I'll read a book under a soft light. Next, I do something to make tomorrow easier, like picking out my clothes. This helps my mind stop worrying about the next day. Finally, I make my room into a cozy sleep cave. I draw the curtains to make it dark, make sure it's quiet, and keep it a little cool. All these steps help my body know it is absolutely time to rest.
When I stick to my routine, the result is that I fall asleep much faster and don't wake up in the middle of the night. The next morning, I wake up feeling refreshed and full of energy for school and playing with friends. If I do not follow my routine, I might toss and turn, and then I feel grumpy and tired the next day. That makes it hard for me to focus in class.
Having a sleep routine is a powerful way for me to take care of myself. It’s a tool that helps my body and brain stay healthy, strong, and happy. Following these simple steps each night helps me get the rest I need to learn, play, and be my best self every day.
