Creating a Calm and Tidy Space

I have learned that tidying up is more than just cleaning my room; it's about creating a space that makes me feel happy and calm. I know how it feels when my room is messy—it can be hard to find my favorite toy or book. When my space is tidy, my mind can feel clearer, too. Learning to tidy up helps me take care of my belongings and decide what things are truly special to me.

First, instead of cleaning one small part of my room, I try tidying by category. I gather all of my clothes from every spot—my closet, drawers, and maybe that chair in the corner—and put them in one big pile. This helps me see everything I have at once. Next, I pick up each item one by one and ask myself, 'Does this make me happy?' If it’s my favorite superhero t-shirt that I love to wear, I keep it. If it's a sweater that's too small or feels itchy, it's time for me to let it go. Before I put an item in the donation pile, I hold it and say, 'Thank you for keeping me warm.' This helps me appreciate what my things did for me. Once I’ve decided what to keep, every single item needs a home. This means all my LEGOs go in the red bin and all my books stand on the bookshelf. When everything has a place, it’s much easier and faster for me to clean up next time.

Having a tidy space makes my daily life much easier. I won't have to spend ten minutes searching for my other sock when I'm getting ready for school. A tidy room gives me more space to build forts, do cartwheels, or have friends over to play. It can also help my brain feel less cluttered, making it easier for me to focus on homework. Taking care of my space is a great way for me to feel proud and responsible.
