The Little Gardener Bird
Hello. I am an American Robin. I hatched from a tiny, bright blue egg. My egg was in a cozy nest my parents built just for me. A long, long time ago, in the year 1766, people started to learn all about my family. I have soft feathers to keep me warm. My back is a soft gray color, like a cloudy day. But my tummy is my favorite part. It is a bright, reddish-orange color, just like a beautiful sunset. When I fly, my pretty tummy shines for everyone to see.
My day is very busy and full of fun. My favorite thing to eat is juicy worms. I hop, hop, hop on the green grass. I put my head down and listen very carefully. Wiggle, wiggle. I can hear the worms moving under the ground. Then I pull one out for a yummy snack. I also love to sing. Early in the morning, when the sun wakes up, I sing a happy song. My song says hello to the new day. It sounds like I am singing, 'cheer-up, cheerily.' It is my way of making everyone feel happy.
I have a very special job in the world. After I eat sweet, yummy berries, I fly all around. I fly to new places, far and near. When I fly, I drop the tiny seeds from the berries onto the ground. Those little seeds help new plants and trees grow big and strong. When you see me in your yard, you know I am being a little gardener. I am busy helping make the world more beautiful and full of cheerful songs.
