Dromedary Camel

Hello there! My name is the Dromedary Camel, but my friends call me the Arabian camel. My home is the big, sunny desert, where the sand stretches for miles and miles. The first thing you probably notice about me is the big bump on my back. That’s my hump! I only have one, and it makes me very special.

My hump isn’t for storing water like some people think. It’s actually full of fat, which is like my own personal lunchbox. When I can’t find food in the desert, my body uses the fat for energy. I also have super long eyelashes to keep the sand out of my eyes during a sandstorm. I can even close my nose to stop the sand from getting in. My wide, soft feet are like special shoes for the sand, so I don't sink when I walk.

For a very long time, since around the year 3000 BCE, I have been a great friend to people in the desert. They call me the 'ship of the desert' because I help them carry things and travel across the vast sands. I am strong and steady, and I love helping my human friends on their journeys. Being perfectly built for my desert home makes me a very important part of life here.
