Just want Iberian Lynx?
Hello! My name is Lynx, and I am an Iberian Lynx, which makes me one of the rarest and most special cats in the whole world. My coat is a beautiful sandy color with dark spots, which is the perfect camouflage for hiding in the sunny forests where I live. If you look closely, you’ll see my most famous features. I have long, black tufts of fur on the tips of my ears that work like super-powered antennas, helping me hear the tiniest sounds. I also have fluffy fur around my chin that looks just like a beard!
My story begins in a warm and cozy den, tucked away safely in a forest on the Iberian Peninsula, which is a sunny place in Spain and Portugal. I remember tumbling and playing with my brothers and sisters while our mother watched over us. She was the best teacher! She taught us everything we needed to know to survive, especially how to be silent and patient when we were hunting for our food. We learned to move without making a single sound.
My absolute favorite thing to eat is rabbit! The European rabbits that hop around the forest are my main meal, and they are so yummy. Eating them keeps me healthy and strong so I can run and play. To catch one, I have to be very clever. I use my super-sharp eyes to spot them from far away and my amazing hearing to listen for their little footsteps. Then, I sneak up on them as quietly as a whisper. It’s like a fun game of hide-and-seek, and I am a very, very good player.
But there was a time when things became very difficult for my family. I remember it was a very hard time for us. Back in the year 2002, there were fewer than 100 of us left in the entire world. It was a very lonely feeling. Our forest homes were getting smaller because there were more roads and buildings. Even worse, the rabbits we love to eat got very sick, and it became harder and harder for us to find enough food to eat. It was a very scary time for all lynx.

Then, just when we were losing hope, something wonderful happened. Kind people realized we were in trouble and decided to help us. They worked together to create big, safe parks where we could live and hunt without being disturbed. They also helped the rabbits get healthy again, so we had plenty of food to eat. Because of all their hard work, our lynx family started to grow bigger and stronger. Now, there are many more of us, and we are slowly returning to the forests. I am so happy to be part of a growing family, and I help keep the forest balanced, just by being me.
