Just want Abbas ibn Firnas?
Hello. My name is Abbas ibn Firnas. When I was growing up, I loved to look up at the sky. I would watch the birds soaring and swooping, and I dreamed that one day, I could fly just like them. I was an inventor, which means I loved to create new things to solve problems.
I studied how birds used their wings to catch the wind. I decided to build my very own pair of wings. I made a big frame out of light wood and covered it with beautiful feathers, just like a real bird. It was like a giant flying coat. I worked on it for a very long time, making sure it was strong enough for my big adventure.
In the year 875, I was ready. I climbed a hill, took a deep breath, and jumped. For a few moments, I glided through the air. It felt like I was flying. My landing was a little bumpy because I learned something very important that day: birds need tails to land smoothly. I lived to be 77 years old, and my big jump inspired people for many, many years to keep trying until they could truly fly.
