Amelia Bloomer

Hello! My name is Amelia Bloomer. I was born a very long time ago, in the year 1818. When I was a little girl, I loved to learn and listen to people. But I noticed that women's ideas were not always listened to like men's ideas were. I thought that was not fair. I believed that every single person has important things to say, and I wanted to help make sure everyone's voice could be heard.

Back then, women had to wear very long, heavy dresses. It was hard to run, jump, or play in them! I wanted to wear clothes that were comfy and easy to move in. So, I started wearing a shorter skirt with big, puffy pants underneath. It was so much better for playing! Soon, other people started calling these comfy pants 'bloomers' because of my last name. In the year 1849, I also started my very own newspaper called The Lily. It was a special paper where I could share women's stories and ideas with everyone.

My goal was always to help women feel comfortable in their clothes and brave enough to share their thoughts. I lived to be 76 years old, and I was so happy that my ideas helped other people feel strong and free. When you wear clothes that let you run and play, you can think of me and remember how wonderful it is to just be yourself.
