Hello. My name is André. I was born a long, long time ago, in the year 1896. When I was a little boy, I loved to look at pictures and read poems. My favorite things were the ones that made me think and wonder. I always thought about my dreams. I loved all the silly and surprising pictures I saw in my head when I was asleep.
One day, I had a wonderful idea. What if we could make art from our dreams? In the year 1924, I told all my friends, and they loved the idea, too. We called our new kind of art 'Surrealism.' It was like letting our imaginations run wild on the paper. We would play games where we let our pencils scribble and draw whatever they wanted, creating surprising shapes and funny creatures. We painted clocks that melted and fish that flew in the sky. It was all about being playful and creating things no one had ever seen before.
Our dream art showed everyone that ideas can come from anywhere, especially from our own imaginations. I lived to be 70 years old. Today, people all over the world look at our art in museums. It reminds them to be creative, to think about their own dreams, and to remember that making art is a wonderful adventure.
