Hello! My name is André Breton, and I have a story to tell you about the amazing world of imagination. I was born in a town called Tinchebray in France on February 19th, 1896. Even when I was a boy, I loved playing with words and writing poems. I thought it was so much fun to create new worlds just by thinking. I decided to study to become a doctor, but my biggest passion was always art and ideas that came from deep inside your mind.
When I grew up, I worked as a doctor in a hospital during a very big war, which started around 1914. I took care of soldiers who were hurt and listened to their stories. It made me think a lot about what goes on inside our minds, especially when we are sleeping. I became fascinated with dreams! I wondered, 'What if the silly, strange, and wonderful pictures we see in our dreams could be turned into art?' I believed that our imaginations held the best secrets and the most exciting adventures, just waiting to be discovered.
So, I got together with my artist and writer friends in Paris and said, 'Let's make art that feels like a dream!' We called our new idea Surrealism. It was all about being super-real, which means it was even more real than what you see with just your eyes. We painted and wrote whatever popped into our heads, without worrying if it made perfect sense. In 1924, I wrote a book called the 'Manifesto of Surrealism' to explain our ideas to everyone. We created surprising pictures of things like floating fish and melting clocks to show everyone the magic hiding in their own minds.

I lived to be 70 years old, and I spent my life exploring the world of imagination. Today, people remember me for starting Surrealism and for encouraging artists everywhere to be brave and creative. I helped show the world that your dreams and your silliest thoughts are not just for sleeping—they are treasures you can use to make amazing art.
