A Story About Carl Rogers

Hello! My name is Carl Rogers. I was born a long time ago, in the year 1902. When I was a little boy, I lived on a farm. I loved watching things grow, like tall stalks of corn and tiny potato plants. I was very curious about the world around me. As I got older, I became curious about people, too!

I had a very important idea. I believed that every single person is special and good inside. I thought the best way to help someone was to listen to them—really, really listen. It’s like how a flower needs sunshine to grow. People need kindness and understanding to grow happy and strong. I learned that just by being a warm, caring friend who listens, you can help someone feel so much better.

I shared my ideas about listening with lots of people, like teachers, doctors, and parents. I showed them that being a good listener is like having a superpower to help others. I lived to be 85 years old. My life ended in the year 1987, but I was so happy to see my ideas help people all over the world. The most wonderful thing you can do for someone is listen to them with your whole heart. It helps everyone feel loved and understood.
