The story

King Croesus and His Treasure

Hello! My name is Croesus. A very, very long time ago, around the year 560, I was a king. My kingdom was a beautiful, sunny land called Lydia. It was a happy place, and I loved my kingdom and all the wonderful people who lived there. Being their king was my most important job, and I wanted to make everyone feel safe and happy.

I was known for having lots and lots of treasures. I had mountains of shiny gold and piles of sparkly jewels. It was so much fun to see them all shine! But my favorite thing was not just keeping my treasure all to myself. I loved to share it! I used my gold to build amazing, beautiful buildings all over my kingdom. These pretty buildings were for everyone to see and enjoy. It made me so happy to use my treasures to make my kingdom an even more wonderful place for my people.

My story is very, very old, but people still remember me today. Sometimes, when someone has a lot of something, you might hear people say they are 'as rich as Croesus!' That’s me! But I learned something very important during my time as king. I learned that being kind and sharing with others is the best and most wonderful treasure of all. That is what I hope you remember about my story.
