Just want Democritus?
Hello! My name is Democritus, and I lived a long, long time ago in a place called Greece. People had a special name for me. They called me the 'Laughing Philosopher'. Do you know why? It was because I was always cheerful and loved to smile. I smiled because I was always learning new and exciting things about our big, wonderful world, and that made me very happy.
I loved to ask questions about everything. I would look at a big rock, a pretty flower, or even my own hand and wonder, 'What is this made of?'. I thought and thought about it. Then, I had a big idea! I thought that everything in the world is made of teeny-tiny building blocks. These blocks are so small that you can't even see them with your eyes. I gave these tiny building blocks a special name. I called them 'atoms'.
I lived a very long and happy life for about 90 years, and I never stopped asking questions. My idea about the tiny atoms was so important that people who study science still talk about it today! My idea helps everyone understand how our amazing world works. It all starts with something very, very small.
