The Story of Frederick Douglass
Hello. My name is Frederick Douglass. I was born a very long time ago, in the year 1818. When I was a little boy, my biggest dream was to be free. I loved to learn new things and I knew that knowledge could help me reach my dream.
I was not supposed to learn how to read or write, but I found clever ways to learn anyway. I saw words as a kind of magic. Once I learned to read, a whole new world opened up. I read every book I could find. Learning to write meant I could share my own ideas with everyone.
When I grew up, I finally became free. But I could not forget about others who were not. I decided to use my voice and my words to help them. I traveled to many places and gave big speeches, telling everyone that all people deserve to be free and treated with kindness. I wrote books about my life so people would understand.
I lived to be 77 years old. Today, people remember me as someone who fought for fairness with powerful words. I hope my story shows you that your voice matters and you can use it to help make the world a better place.
