Just want Galen of Pergamon?
Hello! My name is Galen. I was born in a city called Pergamon a very, very long time ago, in the year 129. My father thought it was very important to learn new things. He dreamed that I would become a doctor to help people when they were sick. I loved learning all about our bodies. I thought they were like little machines with lots of moving parts.
When I grew up, I became a doctor! It was my job to help people feel better. For a little while, around the year 157, I was the doctor for strong athletes called gladiators. When they got scrapes and bumps from their games, I would fix them up so they could play again. Later, around the year 162, I moved to a big city called Rome. I even became the doctor for the most important person there—the emperor!
I wanted to share everything I learned so other doctors could help people, too. I wrote hundreds of books about medicine and how to keep our bodies healthy and strong. I lived to be about 87 years old. Even today, people remember me because my books helped doctors take good care of people for more than a thousand years after I was gone.
