Just want Georges Braque?
Hello! My name is Georges Braque, and I was an artist who loved to paint. I was born in France on May 13th, 1882. My dad and my grandpa were painters, too! They didn't paint pictures to hang in museums; they painted houses to make them beautiful. I loved watching them mix colors and use their big brushes. It inspired me to pick up a brush and start creating my own art.
When I grew up, around the year 1900, I moved to the big, bustling city of Paris to become a professional artist. At first, I painted using the brightest, boldest colors I could find—pinks, oranges, and bright blues! This style of painting was called Fauvism. Then, in 1907, I met another artist who became my very good friend. His name was Pablo Picasso. We spent hours and hours talking about art and sharing our biggest ideas.
Pablo and I came up with a revolutionary idea. We wanted to show things from all sides at once in a single painting. Imagine looking at a guitar and seeing the front, back, and sides all at the same time! We used simple shapes like cubes and squares and mostly calm colors like browns and grays. We called our new style of art Cubism. A few years later, around 1912, I tried something else that was brand new. I started gluing pieces of newspaper and patterned paper onto my paintings. This is called collage, and it was another fun way to make art!
I painted for my entire life, always trying new things and exploring my ideas on the canvas. I lived to be 81 years old and passed away in 1963. Today, people remember me and my friend Pablo for inventing Cubism, a style that changed art forever. We showed the world that art doesn't have to look exactly like real life. It can be a wonderful adventure of shapes, ideas, and imagination.
