The story

Giuseppe Garibaldi

Hello! My name is Giuseppe Garibaldi. When I was a boy, I loved the big, blue sea. I became a sailor and sailed on tall ships to faraway places. The ocean was my first great adventure!

Back then, my home, Italy, wasn't one big country. It was like a puzzle with lots of separate pieces. I had a big dream. I wanted all the pieces to come together to make one country, like a happy family. So, I gathered my brave friends to help. We all wore bright red shirts so we could always find each other in a crowd! We were called the Redshirts.

Our adventures worked! We helped bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to make the country of Italy. I lived a long and exciting life for 74 years. Today, people in Italy remember me and my friends in the red shirts for helping their country become one. It shows that when we work together, we can do amazing things!
