Hammurabi

Hello! My name is Hammurabi. I was a king a long, long time ago. I lived in a wonderful city called Babylon. My city was very busy. It had tall buildings and pretty gardens. A big river flowed right by our home. It was a happy place to be.

Being a king was a very important job. My job was to help all the people in my city. To help the farms grow yummy food, I built special water roads called canals. The water could flow to all the plants and help them grow big and strong. I also made our city strong with big walls. The walls helped keep everyone safe and sound inside our home. I loved taking care of my community.

I had a very big idea to help everyone be fair and kind. A long, long time ago, around the year 1754 BCE, I made a big list of rules for everyone to see. My rules were simple, like being nice to your neighbors or giving back something you borrowed. These fair rules helped all the people in Babylon live together happily and treat each other well.

I lived a long, long time ago, but people still remember me today. My legacy is my belief in fairness. People remember my big idea that having rules can help everyone get along. Being kind and fair is still one of the most important things in the world.
