The story

Ibn Sina

Hello. My name is Ibn Sina. When I was a little boy, a long, long time ago around the year 985, I loved to read. I read all kinds of books. I wanted to learn new things about the big, wide world. I was very curious, which means I always wanted to know more. I would ask lots and lots of questions about everything I saw.

Because I loved learning so much, I wanted to use what I knew to help people. I decided to become a doctor. Around the year 997, I began helping people who were sick. I worked hard to find ways to make them feel better. Seeing someone smile again after they were not feeling well made me so happy. Helping people was my very favorite thing to do in the whole world. It felt good to be kind and useful.

I learned so many things about being a doctor that I wanted to share them. So, I wrote everything down in a very big book. I called my book 'The Canon of Medicine'. I finished writing it around the year 1025. I put all of my ideas in the book so that other doctors could read them. I hoped my book would help them take good care of even more people, for many years to come.

I lived to be about 57 years old, and my life ended in the year 1037. Even today, people still read my books to learn about medicine and science from long ago. I am remembered as a great thinker who always wanted to share what I learned to help others feel better.
