Just want Imhotep?
Hello! My name is Imhotep, and I lived a very, very long time ago in a place called Ancient Egypt. My home was a sunny land with a great river called the Nile that flowed through it. I served my king, a pharaoh named Djoser. My job was to be his vizier, which is like being his most important helper. I was very busy, but I loved my work! My favorite thing to do was solve tricky problems and create new things for my king and for all the people of Egypt. I always looked for ways to make our kingdom better and stronger, and King Djoser trusted me with his biggest ideas.
One day, King Djoser told me he wanted a special tomb, which is a place to rest for his forever-after home. In those days, tombs were simple, flat buildings called mastabas, and they were made of mud bricks that were not very strong. But I had a new, bigger idea! I thought to myself, 'What if we used stone, which is much stronger and lasts forever? And what if we stacked the mastabas on top of each other, getting smaller and smaller, like giant steps going up to the sky?' I was so excited about this plan. Around the year 2667 BCE, I showed my drawings to the king. He loved my idea for a grand tomb that no one had ever seen before.
So, we began our great project at a place called Saqqara. It was hard work for many people, but we all worked together. We cut huge blocks of stone and carefully placed them one on top of the other. For the very first time in the world, someone was building something so huge completely out of stone. My idea was coming to life! When it was finished, it was called the Step Pyramid. It looked like a giant stairway reaching for the heavens, a special path for the king's spirit to climb up to the stars. I felt so proud of what we created, and my pyramid changed the way people in Egypt built their amazing buildings forever.

Building the pyramid was my most famous job, but it was not the only thing I loved to do. I was also a doctor. When people were sick, I would use my knowledge of plants and medicine to help them feel better. I was also a scribe, which meant I loved to write things down. I wrote about medicine, building, and many other ideas. I believed that knowledge was very important, and I wanted to share everything I learned to help other people live better and healthier lives.
I lived a long and full life helping my king and my country. For thousands of years after I was gone, people in Egypt remembered me. They didn't just remember me for building the great Step Pyramid; they also thought of me as a god of medicine and wisdom because of my work as a doctor and a writer. It makes me happy to know that my ideas helped so many people for thousands of years and that my story is still being told to children like you today.
