The story

Jesus of Nazareth

Hello! My name is Jesus. I was born a long time ago, around the year 4 BCE, in a little town called Bethlehem. My mother's name was Mary and my earthly father's name was Joseph. Soon after I was born, we moved to a town called Nazareth, and that’s where I grew up. Joseph was a carpenter, and he taught me how to work with wood. I loved helping him, and I loved learning the stories and songs of my people, the Jewish people.

When I was about 30 years old, around the year 28 CE, I began my most important work. I traveled all around the countryside, near a big lake called the Sea of Galilee. I wanted to teach everyone about God's amazing love. I would tell people that the most important rules were to love God and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. I gathered a group of special friends, called disciples, to help me. You might have heard of some of them, like Peter and John. I often told stories called parables, like the one about the Good Samaritan, to help people understand big ideas in a simple way.

My message of love and forgiveness was for everyone, especially those who felt lost or forgotten. I helped people who were sick and spent time with those who were poor. Around the year 33 CE, I traveled to the big city of Jerusalem. Some of the leaders there didn't like my teachings and felt threatened by them. It led to a very sad time when I was arrested and put on a cross. But my story didn't end there. My followers believe that God gave me new life, showing that love and hope are more powerful than anything else.

I lived to be about 33 years old. After my life on Earth, my friends and followers shared my story and teachings all over the world. The religion based on my life is called Christianity, and today billions of people, known as Christians, find hope and guidance in my message of love, compassion, and forgiveness. My story reminds people to be kind to one another, and that love is the greatest gift of all.
