The Story of Joan of Arc
Hello! My name is Joan. I lived a long, long time ago in a little village called Domrémy in France. I loved my home. I helped my mother around the house and helped my father in the fields with our sheep. My favorite thing was hearing the church bells ring. To me, they sounded like happy music.
When I was a teenager, around the year 1425, something amazing happened. I started to hear what I believed were messages from saints. They told me I had a very important job to do. I had to help the leader of my country, Charles, become the true king of France. At first, I was scared. I was just a farm girl! But the messages made me feel brave and strong, and I knew I had to try.
I traveled to meet Charles and told him about my mission. He believed me! He gave me a suit of white armor to wear and a beautiful banner with angels on it. In 1429, I helped lead the French soldiers in a big battle at a city called Orléans. We won! It made everyone so happy and hopeful. I helped my country when it needed me most.
My life was very short, and I lived to be 19 years old. But people never forgot my story. Today, I am remembered as a hero in France for my bravery and faith. My story shows that even a young person can do great things.
