Just want King Ferdinand II of Aragon?
Hello, my name is Ferdinand, and I was a prince who became a king and helped unite a great nation. I was born on March 10th, 1452, in a castle in Sos, a town in the kingdom of Aragon, which is now part of Spain. My father was King John II of Aragon, so from a very young age, I was taught how to lead, how to ride horses, and how to understand the complex world of royal duties. In those days, the land we now call Spain was divided into several different kingdoms, and my destiny was to play a part in bringing them together.
The most important event of my young life happened on October 19th, 1469. On that day, I married the brilliant and determined Isabella I, the future queen of the neighboring kingdom of Castile. Our marriage wasn't just about love; it was a promise to join our two powerful kingdoms. When my father passed away in 1479, I became King of Aragon. Together, Isabella and I became known as the 'Catholic Monarchs.' We ruled side-by-side, making decisions together to create a single, strong, and unified Spain.
One of our greatest goals was to complete what is known as the 'Reconquista,' or reconquest. For hundreds of years, Christian kingdoms had fought to regain control of the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rulers. The final stronghold was the beautiful city of Granada. After years of effort, on January 2nd, 1492, Granada surrendered to our forces. It was a historic moment that brought the entire peninsula under Christian rule for the first time in centuries. We also believed that having a single religion, Catholicism, would make our new country stronger and more unified.

The year 1492 was busy for another reason! A determined sailor from Genoa named Christopher Columbus came to us with a bold idea. He wanted to sail west across the Atlantic Ocean to find a new trade route to Asia. Many thought it was impossible, but Queen Isabella and I saw the potential. We gave him three ships—the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María—and on August 3rd, 1492, he set sail. His journey led him not to Asia, but to a 'New World'—the Americas. This voyage changed the map of the world forever and began an age of exploration, making Spain one of the most powerful empires on Earth.
My beloved Isabella passed away in 1504, which was a great sadness for me and for our kingdom. I continued to rule and protect the nation we had built together. I lived to be 63 years old, passing away in 1516. I am remembered as one of the two monarchs who created the modern country of Spain. By uniting our kingdoms and sponsoring voyages that connected continents, we helped shape the course of world history. My hope is that my story shows how courage, vision, and working together can change the world.
