Just want King John of England?
Hello, my name is John, and I was a king in a land called England a very long time ago. I was born on a chilly day, December 24th, in the year 1166. My father was King Henry II, and I had a very famous brother named Richard the Lionheart. When my brother was no longer king, it was my turn to wear the crown. In the year 1199, I became the king of England.
Being a king was a very big job. I had to make many decisions for all the people in my kingdom. Some of the important leaders, who were called barons, became grumpy with me. They did not think I was being a fair king. The barons wanted the rules to be the same for everyone, and that meant the king had to follow the rules, too.
To solve our problem, we all met in a big, grassy field called Runnymede in the year 1215. We wrote down all the rules on a very large piece of paper. We called it the Magna Carta, which means 'Great Charter'. This was my big promise to everyone that even I, the king, had to follow the rules. It was a very important promise that helped make things fair. I lived to be 49 years old, and people still remember me for the Magna Carta, which helped make sure rules were fair for all.
