Just want Pedro II of Brazil?
Hello! My name is Pedro, and I was the second and last emperor of the beautiful country of Brazil. I was born in a palace in Rio de Janeiro on December 2nd, 1825. When I was just five years old, my father, Emperor Pedro I, had to leave the country. On April 7th, 1831, he left me in charge! Of course, a five-year-old can't run a whole country, so I spent my time studying and learning while trusted adults helped out.
I loved books and learning more than anything. I studied science, art, languages, and everything I could about the world. I really wanted to be a teacher, but my country needed me to be an emperor. In 1840, when I was 14, the leaders of Brazil decided I was ready to rule on my own. It was a very big job for a teenager! I promised to work hard to make Brazil a strong and fair nation for everyone. I helped open schools and museums and was always excited about new inventions.
One of the most important things during my time as emperor was ending slavery. I believed it was wrong for anyone to own another person. It took a long time, but my family and I worked to make sure everyone in Brazil could be free. In 1888, while I was away on a trip, my daughter, Princess Isabel, signed a special law called the Lei Áurea, or the Golden Law. This law freed all the enslaved people in Brazil. It was one of the happiest days of my life.
Not long after, in 1889, some army leaders decided they didn't want an emperor anymore. They wanted Brazil to be a republic instead. They told my family and me that we had to leave our home. It was very sad to say goodbye to the country and the people I loved so much. We moved across the ocean to Europe.

I spent the rest of my days in Paris, France, always dreaming of my beloved Brazil. I lived to be 66 years old. Today, people remember me as a kind and curious ruler who cared deeply for his country. They call me 'the Magnanimous' because I tried to be generous and fair, and I am remembered for helping to end slavery and for guiding Brazil through many years of peace and progress.
