Just want Prince Henry the Navigator?
Hello. My name is Henry, and I was a prince in a sunny country called Portugal, born in the year 1394. Even though I was a prince, I did not dream of castles. I dreamed of the big, sparkling sea. I would look out at the waves and wonder, 'What amazing places are out there, far, far away?'.
Sailing on the ocean was tricky back then. I wanted to help my brave sailor friends explore safely. So, around the year 1420, I gathered the smartest map-makers and ship-builders. Together, we made better maps to show the way and built a special new boat called a caravel. It was small and fast, perfect for new adventures.
Because of our hard work, my sailors were able to travel farther than ever before, discovering new parts of the world. I lived to be 66 years old, and my life ended in 1460. People remember me as Henry the Navigator because I helped start a great age of exploration. My dream helped everyone learn a little bit more about our wonderful world.
