Just want Robert the Bruce?
Hello! My name is Robert the Bruce, and I was a king of Scotland a very long time ago. I was born on July 11th, 1274. I grew up in a land of green hills and misty lochs. I loved my home, but it wasn't a happy time. The powerful King of England wanted to rule over us, and I believed that Scotland should be free and have its own king. I dreamed that one day, I could help make that happen.
When I grew up, I decided to fight for Scotland’s freedom. It was a very big decision! In the year 1306, I was crowned King of Scots. But being king wasn't easy. The English king’s army was very strong, and at first, they beat my soldiers. I had to run and hide in the wild countryside to stay safe. People tell a story that while I was hiding in a cave, I watched a tiny spider try to spin its web. It failed again and again, but it never gave up. Watching that little spider inspired me to try again, too.
Inspired by the spider, I gathered my supporters and got ready to fight again. In the year 1314, we faced a huge English army at a place called Bannockburn. They had more soldiers and knights than we did, but we had a better plan and we were fighting for our homes. We fought with all our hearts, and we won! The Battle of Bannockburn was a great victory and showed everyone that Scotland would not give up.
We kept fighting for many more years. Finally, in 1328, the King of England signed a treaty that said Scotland was its own independent country, forever. My dream had come true! I lived to be 54 years old. Today, people in Scotland remember me as a hero king who fought for their freedom. My story shows that even when things seem impossible, you should never, ever give up.
