Sandro Botticelli

Hello! My name is Sandro Botticelli. I was a painter who lived a long, long time ago in a beautiful city in Italy called Florence. I loved art more than anything! I especially loved to mix bright, happy colors to make wonderful pictures that told stories without using any words. I thought it was amazing to show an entire story just by using paint and a brush.

My favorite things to paint were magical stories. I painted a beautiful goddess floating on a giant seashell in my painting 'The Birth of Venus' around the year 1486. I also painted a secret garden full of flowers and friends celebrating springtime. It was so much fun to fill the picture with pretty plants and happy people. I even got to work with other artists in 1481 to paint the walls of a very famous and special room, the Sistine Chapel. It was so big we had to stand on tall platforms to reach the top! It was a very important job, and I was happy to help make the room beautiful for everyone to see.

I painted for many years and lived to be about 65 years old. Today, you can still see my colorful paintings in big buildings called museums all over the world. I hope when you see them, they make you feel happy and remind you of the beauty and magic in stories.
